These couple of days after Christmas have been strangely hectic for me. I've been going places and meeting people and doing things, which has been fun, but exhausting. Now I won't have to do anything until... Tuesday next week. But that's because we're going to London, so I think I'll survive.

So I've been falling behind on the Who watching a bit (though I did manage to get my sister to watch The Robots of Death with me and enjoy it, which I am unreasonably pleased about) but I did finally finish reading The Hobbit, and got around to seeing the movie.

Non-spoilery opinion is that I really enjoyed it? More than I thought I would, maybe? I was never a huge Tolkien fan, and it's not a perfect movie; I would've liked them to tone down the drama and up the Hobbit-ness of it. As it is it feels like a LotR movie, both in good and bad ways. But I'm very much looking forward to the next one, so~

Also, I did a meme on Tumblr. Before posting the results here, I thought I could subject you to it as well.

1) Give me a pairing
2) Give me an AU setting
3) I will write you a three-sentence fic.

The Robots of Death is one of my favorite Fourth Doctor serials. I love how it is sort of a perfect mesh of Agatha Christie and Isaac Asimov in its style. Good times all around.

So many Four serials are quality, but Robots of Death might actually be even better the second time around. Everything about it is just exquisite. My sister is a big fan of crime and detective stories, so I wasn't that surprised that my plan worked. She's also a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, so hopefully I'll be able to rope her into Talons of Weng-Chiang at some point too. :3

(Now all I want is a Five and Leela team-up where they fight evil espresso machines... somehow. I was going to post this last night, except LJ decided to die on me. Bleh.)

He met Leela for the first time when she entered the shop at a quarter past one AM, walked up to the counter and asked for a sharpened blade.

Three hours, two car chases, one case of mistaken identity and a pair of ruined shoes and scissors later, the Doctor showed his gratitude to her for leading him to the location of an antique necklace that had been reported stolen two weeks earlier by pouring her a cup of espresso.

They met up for coffee there four more times before the staff realised that the Doctor didn’t actually work there.
