In the continuing adventures of "Mathilda fails at uni (and life, a little)", the course lit I ordered for Greek class arrived today. Not sure what would be more expensive; paying for the books or for sending them back... But bleh. I don't really want to complain all the time, so I can't imagine any of you want to read that. MOVING ON:
- Been listening to Anaïs Mitchell's album "Hadestown" all morning (because of this Tumblr post, which also have Youtube and download links, hint hint) and I just. It's a post-apocalyptic re-telling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice? With folk music?? With Ani DiFranco as Persephone (and a bunch of other talented artists too)??? IT IS BASICALLY PERFECT.
- Have started watching Blake's 7, which I think I forgot to mention last time. I'm only four episodes in so I... don't feel I have that much to say about it yet except that I'm enjoying it, and it's getting better and better, so. I am pleased! (I was going to say "also watching something that isn't Doctor Who, haha", but then again... if an episode is written and edited by Terry Nation and Chris Boucher, it's probably halfway to counting as a Who episode already).
- Because I started trawling my food tag on Tumblr (which is actually 90% sweets and pastries, sad but true) and because I really need to try some new things, especially now when I actually have time to make a proper lunch/dinner, here are bookmarks; feel free to tell me about the result if you try any of them. :9
Peas and pesto risotto
Sauteéd Brussels sprouts with bacon
Vegan sweet potato ravioli
Sweet and sour pork
Smoky roasted cauliflower
Chicken drumsticks with tomatoes and mushrooms
Also, friendly reminder that the gift meme is still open. Are you sure none of you want free stuff? (I promise I won't police who reposts the meme or not :P).

Date: 2013-02-13 07:58 pm (UTC)But yay! I watched episode 4 today and within the first five minutes I went "oh no everyone is being cute". Which has less to do with what the characters do and more with my attachment to said characters.
(Also at this rate Avon will probably be my favourite because... I love snarky douchebags who hate their life half the time. 'Tis fact.)
This is also the first time I've ever felt pleased about seeing a quarry.
(Re: the books, you're probably right. If they were cheaper I might keep them - they're both literary history-related - but they're... not. So I'll send them back.)

Date: 2013-02-13 10:13 pm (UTC)also - if you like quarrys that were also in doctor who: you're in for a treat! apparently there was a story (that was false, alas) that tom baker and gareth thomas (blake) used to see each other all the time as they scrambled around in quarries. why is it not true??
on the other hand, my boss told me today that she used to know tom baker...
and big finish have cast gareth thomas in the next series of tom baker audios, and louise jameson in one of the blake's 7 audios. because they only know 5 people \o/

Date: 2013-02-13 10:25 pm (UTC)... Let's face it though, that story could just as well be true. Because. How many conveniently located quarries can there be?
I swear to Someone, every British actor's career can be traced back to Who somehow. I have reached the point where I actually have a list of my favourite "Doctor Who is the most incestuous show on British television" examples (I think my absolute favourite is the part where Anthony Ainley's father was actually Jon Pertwee's godfather...).

Date: 2013-02-13 10:32 pm (UTC)but really nothing to avon who has so many outfits and all of them horrid. apparently that brown number he was wearing in episode 4 is an actual time lord costume they just re-did. why bother? i know you already have it, but really. it looks like he's a blacksmith or something.
i did not know that about pertwee's godfather, but i'm pretty sure that ainley's parents were also friends with tbaker's parents :D (THIS LEADS TO YOUNG!DOCTOR WHO AUS, YES?)

Date: 2013-02-13 10:44 pm (UTC)"On a scale of 1 to Time Lord, how bad is your fashion sense?" is a very good indicator of taste... and knowing that, it doesn't bode very well for Avon at all.
Doesn't everything lead to young!Doctor Who AUs sooner or later? Or is that just me? I have seen too many pictures of Anthony Ainley in cricket jumpers not to believe the blasted sport originated on Gallifrey. Somehow.
