gluecookie and I went to the Army Museum, on a guided tour about the Swedish Empire and to see the new temporary exhibition about Poltava. There's been a lot of attention given to the commemoration year 1809-2009, but not much at all to 1709-2009. Which is interesting, because while the loss of Finland was important in shaping Sweden of today, I think the beginning of the fall of the empire was too?
I suppose there is a lot of shame connected to Poltava, but... Not even the Hetalia fandom has noticed this. Hello, guys? The Battle of Poltava?
Bought three books: one about the Dano-Swedish wars in the 1600s, one about ghosts and haunted places in Stockholm, and one about Greek myths and their function through the ages. ^^
Ah, and yes. Last post on Oslo. Here goes.

See? It's not even in central Oslo. XDDD Anyway, we were there because we had to run into a supermarket to buy some crisps and buns for the ducks. We were going to Vigelandsparken...
Vigelandsparken is basically the part of Frogner Park, finished in 1950, featuring a huge number of statues by sculptor Gustav Vigeland. It's rather impressive, but the fact that all the statues are naked people of different ages miiight be slightly off-putting. Or maybe that's just me. Norway, who knew?

The monolith. Wikipedia tries to convince me that it's a symbol for humanity's longing for heaven and the divine. I guess that means that there's something wrong with ME when I say that I think it resembles a phallic symbol made up by people more...
When I saw this, I finally realized I wasn't in Sweden anymore.

It was beautiful weather that day, and I really liked this statue. It irks me that I couldn't have taken the photo juust a bit more to the left and cut out the other stuff in the corner.

We walked around in the park for a while, trying to find the ducks. We found the ducks. And geese, and seagulls. What was supposed to be an enjoyable session of feeding waterfowl turned into a war to prevent the damn seagulls from stealing all the bread pieces (who knew geese could make puppy eyes? D:). I don't know for how long we did this, but we managed to eat the crisps as well and find our way back to the city centre.
Shopping in Oslo is hard for a Swede, because there are so few things to buy that I can't find at home for a much cheaper price. XP In the end, I got me three CDs of Norwegian folk music and Finnish tango.
My last night in Oslo was spent... In front of the television.
Yeah, I'm awesome like that. Seriously though, we were both really tired. XD And there were good stuff on the telly... Midsomer Murders, and the Return of the King. Although the last one was a bit hard to take seriously at times. >w>;ARAGORN!!!
Besides, I failed and fell asleep anyway. Twice. =w=;;
I remember Saturday morning as... Some kind of haze of packing, eating breakfast, and making small talk. And perhaps working as aenesthesia when I got on the train to Stockholm.
I don't really have much to say about this trip that can be put into words except:

Edit: leaving this open for a while... Also, I just realized that next week is the Pride week! And the Army Museum is contributing by showing a photo exhibition of three of our former regents as flaming gay. Sometimes I love my country.
Also, the National Museum of Historical Antiques are having tours about how the hetero norm have shaped our view on vikings, and how it REALLY was... :D
